Description of the painting Arkady Rylov “In the Forest”

The painting "In the Forest" was painted by Arkady Rylov in 1905. This year the first revolution in Russia took place. The Russian population had a hard time, because it was necessary to get food somewhere. The household was also malnourished, as there were not enough cereals.

In general, an artist who grew up in Vyatka, where the weather was always quite severe, loved his native nature very much. She received a noticeable reflection in his work. Nevertheless, in the artist’s paintings you can see the beauty of nature not only in his native land, but throughout Russia. Rylov became one of the best landscape painters of the 20th century, although he painted not only landscapes.

Grandfather and his granddaughter came to the forest in order to feed their horses. There is not much grass in the forest, although animals try to graze. The little foal was already completely emaciated, but he was holding on to his life with all his might. It seems that he grabs every patch of grass with a certain effort. The white horse is more seasoned. She looks at her child with sadness in her eyes. It seems that she understands that her little foal will die soon.

Grandfather left his granddaughter to guard the horses, and he went in search of mushrooms. It can be seen that grandfather is already very old. His camp was hunched over, it was hard for him to move around. The girl is no longer preoccupied with looking after the horses, but eating the rowan. She carefully picks delicious berries with her thin fingers, afraid to drop at least one on the ground. Grandfather is located much further than the girl. This suggests that there is a whole life between them: the girl is still ahead, and the old man will soon fall asleep with an eternal sleep.

This picture was painted by the author to show the harsh everyday life of the common people. And so lived not only this grandfather and granddaughter, but also all the other peasants.
