Description of the painting by Svyatoslav Roerich “My Neighbors”

Everyone has known about the Roerichs for a long time. So their fate happened that they had to leave their homeland, and they first went on a journey around the world, and then stopped in Tibet. But traveling, of course they did sketches. Wherever they visited: India, Pakistan, both Americas.

This canvas is clearly South American residents. The canvas shows the house and its inhabitants - two women and a child. Adult males are usually in the morning on a hunt or at work. Women are engaged in home improvement and raising children, if any. We see how local aborigines eat, how they are dressed. At the same time, the nature of this region is also visible - its colorfulness and brightness are striking. And women are not dressed in gloomy colors, but in bright clothes. True, the artist noticed a commitment to brightness in everything among Asian peoples.

But meanwhile, of course, the artist noticed poverty as well, or rather the wretchedness of the locals. These are people to whom civilization, if it has reached, is not completely. They live by the old rules and laws, live by what their ancestors bequeathed to them. Another completely life, a completely different understanding of life, and of course this is a powerful difference from everything that modern people are used to seeing.

The canvases of the Roerichs have always been marked by a special humanism or some other formation of thinking. But at the same time, the canvases are always bright and joyful. These are mainly landscapes: plain, mountain, forest. And each canvas can be safely reckoned as a masterpiece. It is not for nothing that exhibitions of the Roerichs' paintings are being created all over the world and there are always a lot of visitors there.

“My Neighbors” - the canvas leaves the main set of paintings a little, but that's why it is interesting. The artist, as it were, tells us that life is bright, no matter how a person is and to whatever race he belongs to, it is equally bright for everyone.
