Description of the painting by Ivan Kramskoy "Woodland"

This is a very famous painting by Kramskoy. She entered the collection of paintings of the State Tretyakov Gallery. She was also called the "Man with a club in the forest." There was another name associated with the shot through the hat of a woodland man. This type of painting began to be used in our country in the 1870s.

The name "Woodland" is an old Russian concept, which meant a forester. Kramsky portrayed this specially, according to his desire. He wanted to show what kind of people live in our country. Although they are few, but still they are. He wrote about his painting to Tretyakov, that these peasants make up revolts of such people as Pugachev or Stenka Razin. But in ordinary life, this type of people acts alone.

The canvas is in storage at the State Tretyakov Gallery. Moscow. Pavel Tretyakov bought it from Kramskoy in 1875.
