Description of the painting by Gustave Moreau "Song of Songs"

Gustave Moreau - a vivid representative of the painting of the Symbolists. As themes for his works, he chose mystical, biblical and fantastic themes. His paintings had a strong influence on the creations of the Fauvists, as well as surrealists.

Moreau was familiar with the art of previous centuries. He loved the beauty of oriental silk, the splendor of porcelain and the brilliance of weapons. The painter deliberately isolated himself from the whole society. He did this in order to fully devote himself to art. His life is surrounded by mystery. Creativity of the painter, as if divorced from reality.

Moreau deliberately saturated each painting with a mass of amazing details. We see a beautiful woman. She is dressed in a magnificent outfit that allows you to enjoy the beauty of her body as much as possible. Before us is a real eastern goddess. Glitter of precious stones and luxury of fabrics excite with their splendor.

On the other hand, it seems that we are not a living person, but a real statue of the times of antiquity. A grandiose column in the background and steps more similar to a pedestal reinforce this impression.

The city is visible in the background. It is deliberately not registered. Buildings and domes merge into some kind of magical haze. The sun that illuminates the picture is just as unusual.

The artist skillfully uses flowers. His picture is oversaturated with colors. The richness of the shades is impressive. Transitions and combinations surprise and create a sense of unreality of the depicted.

Moreau believed that he kept traditions in his works. On the work of contemporaries, he responded quite scornfully. The painter sought to follow his own nature, and also wanted to express his vision of the world. Each of his paintings is a real masterpiece that I want to consider. In his creations there is not a single superfluous detail. All of them help to understand the general idea of the artist. The viewer understands what Moro lived and what he wanted to say to all of us. It is no coincidence that the painter became a harbinger of modernists
