Description of the painting by Evgenia Antipova “Roses”

Antipova - a Soviet artist who worked in the style of realism and preferred portraits and still lifes from the genres - she liked to display the surrounding reality as fully and truthfully as possible.

Roses ”is one of her floral paintings in which a whole summer is enclosed. Specifically, this picture depicts a bouquet of flowers in a lilac vase, and it is interesting that, despite the name, the flowers are more ennobled rose hips than real garden roses. He has too many leaves, not enough lush inflorescences.

Their image uses wide bold strokes that leave a feeling of glare. Such strokes depict the table - the lightness and liveliness with which the brush moved is visible even on its surface - and they also depict the background, turning it into the movement of false rustling shadows, into an alluring dusk.

It is interesting that, like many talented artists, Antipova conveyed not only the beauty of roses, but also the general mood of the day in which they froze forever, as well as the desire to come up with a story about them that somehow appears in any viewer.

Perhaps they were presented to the artist after the magnificent performance of the role of Juliet - and there was an applauding room, rising from the chair in a single impulse, and the stuffy smell of perfumes and flowers in the dressing room, and the residual rapture of the role, when other words surfaced from any word in the memory.

And, perhaps, they were brought to a young girl by an ardent admirer, who picked them up in a strange garden and was almost bitten by the dog who zealously guarded this garden. And, of course, for his courage, he received a kiss.

Or, fooling around, they were brought to the dreamer and romance by a militant girlfriend, with a proposal to write a verse about them and to extol their beauty - and, of course, she herself was exalted in verse, only secretly, without even realizing it.

There are many variants of history, and everyone can imagine the one that is closer to him than the rest.
